Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
Verse 11
Magi from the east came to worship Jesus. And they presented incense and myrrh which were very expensive at that time. Through these presents, we can know they really worshipped Jesus as a King of Jews. Because where there is money there is a heart.
When I look into our minds, I question whether I have a mind to give a precious thing to Jesus as a gift. Don’t I only ask something Jesus without presenting my precious thing? Learning Magi I realize I have to get an attitude to give my precious thing to Jesus.
When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious,
Verse 16
Herod said to Magi that he would like to worship Jesus too. So he said to Magi if Magi find the place of Jesus then let him know there. But it was a liar. He was furious when he realized that he was outwitted by Magi which means he had another intention to kill Jesus to keep his king’s position.
We can find something through Herod’s reaction, there are some liars having wicked intentions for Jesus. They do a bad thing for the purpose themselves but their action looks similar to a good person. They are deceivers. In this case, God has sent his angel for Magi not to go back to Herod. We need to identify any person’s hidden intention and try not to be deceived. And God will give us a way not to be fallen for the tricks of bad people.
I want to live in the Lord Jesus today, and I pray that the Holy Spirit will always put the word of the Lord on my lips. Hallelujah, thank you.
