Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy,drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
Verse 10
Healing the sick people and resurrection of the dead, cleansing leprosy, and driving out demons. We received one of those gifts from Jesus freely. So, Jesus ordered us to give these things to other people freely because we have received them free.
What did I receive for free? I’ve got received peace from an unstable future and eternal life from death. And I received assurance God raised me giving me food, a place to live, and cloth to wear. So I can give assurance to those who are worrying about the future and undergoing a difficult situation economically. And I can help with my property if possible.
And I received their time and effort who preached Gospel to me. So, I can give them my time and effort to preach Gospel to those who needed it without conscious.
Furthermore, I have received love and grace from God so I can share those love and grace to neighbors freely. This is real love without cost.
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Verse 28,30-31
Fear is always following us until death. What are we afraid of? Unknown bad things in the future, Sickness, Hunger, and even Death. Why we are afraid of something? Because we don’t know the future and are painful when we are facing those bad things. And we are not strong enough to overcome that tragedy. If we are facing illness then we will be painful so. Hunger as well. And the biggest tragedy is my death and the death of my acquainted.
But Jesus says that God is knowing me better than I do. I cannot count the number of my hair but God is knowing my hair numbers which means God knows all of my situations. Counting hair numbers is impossible for me and that tragedy is impossible to overcome even responding in advance is impossible for me as well. In conclusion, I cannot overcome or I cannot respond in advance by myself. Recognizing this is the first step to overcoming it.
But Jesus says God is almighty and enough to resolve these matters and reliable to us. Even one sparrow is not fallen down without God’s permission. So our life will not be fallen down without God’s permission because our life is more precious than a sparrow.
Especially when we are facing wicked people who can kill our bodies Jesus says not to be afraid of them. If we are afraid of them then we may follow their wicked direction and could be fallen down to bad people’s way. This kind of fear makes us go to the big way perdition then we will go to the hell unquenchable fire pit which is 2nd death. Our bodies and soul will be put to hell too.
We should weigh which one is worse. The body is killed but our soul is saved or the body and soul are both perished. The soul is more precious because everlasting life is related to the soul, not the body. The body is limited and will be gone soon like a fog very short-term life. But life in heaven is so long and everlasting without pain undergoing in this ground. So, the more precious life is not in this ground but in heaven so the soul is more precious than the body.
And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.”
Verse 42
Jesus says if we are serving even small things to the little ones of Jesus’s people then we can surely get a reward from Jesus later. So, serving the people who are working for Jesus is not loss but gain. Remember this, if we do good deeds for the disciples of Jesus that is a reward from Jesus. Usually, a reward is more precious than a small service.
